Farrago!
Shashi Tharoor came into extreme limelight when he used the word Farrago in his tweet in May 2017:
"Exasperating farrago of distortions, misrepresentations & outright lies being broadcast by an unprincipled showman masquerading as a journalist"
Farrago means a confused mixture or Hodgepodge. For example: "A farrago of fact and myth about a fallen Politician".
In Latin, farrago means "mixed fodder" or 'cattle feed'.
A few years before using the word 'Farrago', he had termed the Economy Class Air Travellers as 'Cattle Class'! He was excoriated severely by all including his partymen and the netizens for terming the people as Cattle Class.
Without being apologetic, later on he came up with the word Farrago which does mean 'cattle feed'! Usage of the word Farrago further gained popularity as people found Tharoor's Cattle connection in this word too!
Farrago is used for a medley of disorganized, haphazard, or even nonsensical ideas or elements. The meaning of Farrago in essence remains 'mixture' or 'hodgepodge'.
Farrago sounds more formal than
hodgepodge or mishmash, but it means the same.
Examples:
-Kabadee Bazaar features a farrago of antiques and old junk.
-Children get a farrago of treats--sweets, fruits, dry fruits, chocolates, lollipops--on the occasion of Diwali.
-This blog is also a farrago of words, idioms, phrasal verbs etc.
