(13) Tharoorian Vocabulary-3 Muliebrity
Muliebrity!
The word ‘Muliebrity’ , popularised by Shashi Tharoor in his article on Woman's Day a few years ago, is derived from the Latin 'muliebritas' or womanhood. And from 'muliebritas' is derived ‘mulier’ or woman. Further, ‘Mulier’ is supposed to be derived from ‘mollis,’ meaning soft or weak. Remember the word Mollify!?
Muliebrity (noun) means Womanhood, womanliness, femininity, the condition of being a woman or behaving in ways considered typical of a woman. The antonym of Muliebrity is Virility or Masculinity.
It is a valid word, exists in all Dictionaries but used in mainly literature only. However Shashi Tharoor , the word digger , has thrown open it to all:)
Muliebrity can be applied to all women, and to all men who behave like a women. Muliebrity is a quality of acting in a typically womanly, girlish, or feminine way.
The word Muliebrious has been used as a synonym for “effeminate” for example “that muliebrious fashion designer".
Another fascinating word from the same root is: Mulierosity. It means an excessive fondness for women. Most men suffer from Mulierosity. Shashi Tharoor too! This appears from his Photographs with females circulated on the Social Media by his ruthless trolls!
